VACATURE DETAILS
Vehicle Layout is responsible for the hardware architecture of the vehicle. This department translates the market wishes into feasible vehicle concepts and handles these concepts over to the engineering departments.
Background
The trend towards increasing transport demand is still challenging the European transport systems. On the other hand Europe aims to reduce emissions dramatically. A crucial measure achieving this ambitious aim is to lower transport emissions by increasing the share of inherently more resource-friendly modes of transport.
Scientific aim is to develop an intelligent tractor unit for the road transport with an extra low fifth wheel height (low deck) designed for volume-optimised road transport.
Next level “low deck” tractor unit with less than 950 mm fifth wheel height (ambitious aim 820 mm) and single drive axle
Special tyres to enable “low deck” tractor units in general with the same diameter like the trailer for efficient retreading and synergetic use of the drive axle tyres at the trailer
Tasks
Making of concept studies, the best promising concept variants will be worked out in a Programme Description Book. State-of-the-art design methods (e.g. CAD, FEM and 6-sigma) are applied for the detailed engineering of the concepts. This will end in the building of one prototype in order to perform test runs. These test runs will indicate the need of improvements and optimisations. The end result must be a “proven concept” of a new generation Low deck tractor unit that has the potential to be put into production.
